California Advisory Task Force on Alternative Education

Main content start

The California Advisory Task Force on Alternative Education is co-convened by the Gardner Center and the California Department of Education (CDE) at the request of the California State Board of Education.  Task Force members advise the CDE on the development of a robust state school accountability system that will incentivize school improvement and promote better outcomes for youth in alternative school settings. In September 2020, the Task Force issued a Report & Recommendations of the California Advisory Task Force on Alternative Schools to the State Board of Education focused on the development of the school accountability dashboard for schools that have been formally designated by the CDE as alternative options  schools. The Task Force has also work collaboratively with the Association of California School Administrators to develop and promote model standards for student placement and induction into alternative public schools and charter schools.
