Embedded Research
As part of its mission, the JGC not only provides research to the community but actively engages in the development of youth programs in the San Francisco bay area. JGC staff conduct research to directly link JGC programs, initiatives and research for the field of community youth development. Research teams of senior researchers and graduate student research assistants embed themselves in programs or initiatives as both staff and researchers to fully participate in youth programs. This approach leads to a more refined and detailed understanding of programmatic functioning and the processes at work in promoting youth development. An example of how this type of research has evolved is JGC's Youth Engaged in Leadership and Learning (YELL) (.pdf opens in new browser window).
